Justin Creedy Smith is a British photographer.
Having graduated with a bachelor of arts degree – including a thesis on the role of war photography as a propaganda tool – he moved to Paris in 1984. Initially working as a studio assistant, his apprenticeship in fashion and advertising photography was both intense and diverse. He rapidly started assisting on a free-lance basis the likes of Horst P. Horst and Steven Meisel.
From 1985 until 1987 he was assistant to Peter Lindbergh.
In 1987 he travelled to Japan for the first time, a voyage that had a profound impact on him. Returning to Europe in 1988 he started working for Japanese magazines. In the early 1990s he worked again, temporarily, for Peter Lindbergh, creating his archive and collaborating on his first exhibitions in Germany, France and Japan.
Since then he has worked extensively for the press, specialising in portraiture and reportage, from Tokyo to New York via Paris and London.
He has also published several books in English and French.
With the evolution of photography in the digital age he now works for the web, exhibits images taken with his smart phone and produces limited edition works on cloth.
In 2009 Justin began creating a garden.

Assistant de studio à ses débuts, il découvre la richesse de la photographie dans les domaines de la mode et de la publicité. En 1987, son premier voyage au Japon le marque profondément. À son retour en Europe, en 1988, Justin commence à publier ses photos dans des magazines japonais. Au début des années 1990, de nouveau, il travaille avec Peter Lindbergh, dont il crée les archives. Parallèlement, il collabore aux premières expositions de Lindbergh en Allemagne, en France et au Japon.
Spécialisé en portraits et reportages, il travaille, ensuite, essentiellement pour la presse, de Tokyo à New York, via Londres et Paris. Il publie également plusieurs ouvrages, en anglais et en français.
Depuis l’avènement du numérique, il travaille pour le web, expose les images prises avec son smartphone et produit une édition limitée d’étoles.
En 2009, Justin se lance dans la création d’un jardin.
