| When
I arrived in Paris I found a job as an assistant in a rental studio.
I was the dog’s body--preparing early in
the morning and cleaning in the evening. All day, however, I watched
and absorbed the different techniques of the various photographers,
seeing the results several months later in magazines and on bill-boards.
My English was of more use than my French and quickly I became a
free lance assistant to foreign photographers visiting Paris for
the fashion shows. A few days with Horst P. Horst and then Steven
Meisel lead to a contact with Peter Lindbergh and two years as his
assistant. I was given a taste of the high life at the height of
the "Super Model" era and saw what it is to run a team,
which is a fundamental element of fashion photography.
I have never followed one form of photography and occasionally
will dabble in fashion with a journalistic eye. |
